Services

Mick enjoys assisting others reach their full potential and achieve a healthy life. Always a Kansan, Mick grew up with a desire to be in service to others. Beginning at 17 as a US Marine, and a drill instruction by 19. Mick knows the dedication needed to obtain goals. After several years’ active duty, he kept a promise to his mother and returned home to Kansas to pursue a degree. He multiplied that promise! Mick earned two Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in School Psychology and Marriage & Family Therapy, as well as a Master of Science Degree in Counseling from Pittsburg State University.

Mick put in decades of service counseling and teaching in Southeast Kansas, with experience at Parsons State Hospital, Crawford Country Mental Health and many school districts, including special education services, in that area. He has shown success with a wide variety of education backgrounds, from teaching PE & science to school counselor, psychologist and administrator.

His love of service to others and his country kept him connected with the military through the Kansas National Guard, which ultimately brought him to active duty at Ft. Riley. In 2008 Mick retired from teaching and his family relocated to Manhattan, as he began a full-time military career. Mick expanded his knowledge with countless additional certifications including being a Master Resilience Instructor and Facilitator for the US Army. He taught classes, to help reduce stress and succeed in life, to soldiers and their families and he trained other soldiers to teach the courses.

In August 2015 Mick retired with 41 years total service in the US military. For the next five years, he continued civilian employment at Ft. Riley, providing counseling to soldiers and their families, dealing with the effects of trauma, substance use, depression, and anxiety. He picked up specialized training in Bal-A-Vis-X is a series of Balance/Auditory/Vision eXercises, along with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy both are interactive techniques used to relieve psychological stress effective for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
