WhAT are Problematic sexual Behaviors?

Children and adolescents are naturally curious as they grow and develop, and some sexual behaviors can be a typical part of development. However, there are times when behaviors may become concerning and benefit from additional support.

Problematic Sexual Behaviors (PSB) refer to sexual behaviors shown by children or adolescents that are developmentally unexpected, involve difficulty with boundaries, occur frequently or intensely, involve coercion or secrecy, or create concern for safety and well-being.

PSB can happen for many different reasons and does not automatically mean a child has experienced abuse or predict future harmful behavior. Every child and family situation is unique.

At Andrews & Associates Counseling, we approach PSB with compassion, evidence-based treatment, and a family-centered approach. Our goal is to help children and caregivers understand behavior, strengthen healthy boundaries, build coping and communication skills, increase safety, and support positive long-term outcomes.

Early intervention can make a meaningful difference. With the right support, children and families can move forward with confidence and build healthy relationships.

If you have questions about whether services may be appropriate for your child or family, our team is happy to help discuss next steps.
